Use this YouTube earnings calculator to convert views to money. Estimate ad revenue from one video or your daily channel views, choose long-form or Shorts, and set an RPM that matches your recent analytics.

What can change your YouTube earnings

YouTube Partner Program

Ad revenue requires a monetized channel that meets YouTube's eligibility and policy requirements.

Not every view monetizes

Ad availability, viewer geography, content suitability, and playback behavior affect the revenue behind total views.

Long-form and Shorts differ

Long-form Watch Page ads and Shorts Feed ads use different monetization systems, so their RPMs should not be treated as interchangeable.

YouTube Partner Program eligibility

These are the current headline requirements for sharing in Watch Page or Shorts Feed ad revenue. Other policy and agreement requirements also apply.

  • 1,000 subscribers

  • Either 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 365 days

  • Or 10 million valid public Shorts views in the last 90 days

RPM vs CPM: which number should creators use?

CPM is the amount advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions before YouTube's revenue share. RPM is the creator-facing metric: your revenue per 1,000 total views after YouTube's share. This calculator uses RPM because it is the better input for estimating creator earnings.

Why long-form and Shorts revenue differ

Long-form videos can earn from Watch Page ads, while Shorts revenue comes from a separate Shorts Feed revenue-sharing model. Use a separate RPM for each format from your own YouTube Analytics whenever possible.

YouTube explains that Shorts Feed revenue sharing is separate from long-form Watch Page monetization in its Shorts monetization documentation .

YouTube revenue calculator examples: long-form earnings by views

These examples use lower, benchmark, and higher long-form RPM scenarios. Treat them as directional planning inputs, not a payout promise.

ViewsLower scenario ($2 RPM)Benchmark scenario ($4.34 RPM)Higher scenario ($8 RPM)
10,000$20.00$43.40$80.00
100,000$200.00$434.00$800.00
1,000,000$2,000.00$4,340.00$8,000.00

These are illustrative RPM scenarios. Your own long-form RPM can be materially higher or lower depending on audience, niche, monetization, and seasonality. Use the calculator above for Shorts.

Why YouTube revenue varies

Audience and geography

Advertiser demand and viewer location can change the RPM earned from the same number of views.

Content and watch behavior

Niche, video length, retention, and advertiser-friendly suitability can affect monetized playbacks and RPM.

Monetization status

Only eligible, monetized content can earn ad revenue, and not every view receives an ad impression.

YouTube money calculator FAQ

What is a good YouTube RPM?

There is no universal RPM. Use the RPM from your recent YouTube Analytics for comparable content. It can change with niche, audience location, monetized playbacks, seasonality, and video format.

How much does 1 million YouTube views make?

Multiply 1,000 by your RPM. For example, a $4.34 RPM estimates $4,340 for 1 million views, while a $0.05 RPM estimates $50. Actual earnings can differ substantially.

Do YouTube Shorts earn less than long-form videos?

They often have a different and lower RPM because Shorts Feed ad revenue is pooled and shared under a separate model. Use your own Shorts Analytics to set the most relevant rate.

Do all YouTube views earn money?

No. A view does not always include a monetized ad playback. Eligibility, ad demand, viewer location, content suitability, and ad availability all affect earnings.

Do I need the YouTube Partner Program to earn ad revenue?

Yes. A channel needs to meet YouTube's monetization requirements, accept the relevant modules, and comply with the platform's policies before it can share in ad revenue.
